A planning guide. We also recommend a business plan with a strong upload and an SLA, not just a big download number.
Internet speed questions
How much internet speed does my business need?
It depends on how many people are online and what they do. A rough rule is a few Mbps of download per user for normal cloud work, more for constant video. Upload often matters more than businesses expect, especially with video calls, backups, and cloud cameras.
Why does upload speed matter so much?
Most consumer plans give you a huge download and a tiny upload. But video calls, file sharing, cloud backup, and cloud-recorded cameras all push data up. Skimping on upload is the most common cause of choppy meetings and slow backups.
Should I get a business internet plan?
For anything mission-critical, yes. Business plans typically offer symmetrical or higher upload speeds, a service-level agreement (SLA) with faster repair times, and static IPs. We can also set up a second connection for automatic failover.
